I have modified the attached calculating 398 budget form to now include the
calculation of "person months". These are NOT for current submission use,
as this is not yet a requirement and NIH may develop new forms for their
paper submission, but should be reviewed and stored as a tool for upcoming
electronic submissions to NIH Commons through Grants.gov.
Please note that when we do have to submit the electronic 424 forms there
are fields for the conversion of effort to person months. The electronic
format is set up for 12 month calendar appointments, 9 month academic
appointments, and 3 month summer compensation. When you use the attached
form, in the column designated as "Type Appt. (months)" the number entered
needs to be either 12, 9, or 3, not the number of months a person is
working on that particular grant. If that is the case, additional
calculations reflecting that scenario will need to be computed. This
attached form is for the straight forward 12 (9 or 3) month effort.

We are currently working on our training program for the electronic
submission. We will notify you, via an ORPA-L email, when we are ready to
begin those sessions.
