Description of Facility:
X-Omat X-ray Film Processor
The Department of Imaging Sciences operates a Kodak RP-X-Omat Processor, which is located in the Medical Center, for use by investigators and staff for the development of x-ray films used in their research. The processor is monitored by regular quality assurance testing and receives routine chemical replacement and maintenance to ensure high quality and reproducibility of operation for all users. Use of the equipment is restricted to authorized staff who have received training and have established an active user account with Imaging Sciences.

Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm

Holidays - The X-Omat is CLOSED on all University holidays. Any other changes to the regular operating hours, especially around major holidays, will be posted on the door to Room 3-6848 at least 1 week in advance.

After Hours Use - Arrangements for occasional use of the X-Omat after hours or on weekends can be made in advance with David Conover. Please call his office (ext. 5-1787) or email (david_conover@urmc.rochester.edu) before 2:00pm for after hours requests.

Billing Procedures:

Billing for X-omat services is performed on or about June 1st and December 1st each year. The bill for X-omat services includes:

A $25.00 user fee for the next 6 months ($50.00 per year). This charge is used to defray the costs for quality assurance testing, administrative expenses, and a portion of regular maintenance costs. Therefore, all active users equally share the expenses for operation of the X-Omat services.

A $2.00 per film charge for film development. This charge covers the chemical costs (developer, fixer, etc.), replacement parts, and a portion of maintenance costs needed to develop x-ray films. Therefore, the costs for running the equipment are shared proportionately by all users based on their film volume.

To set up an authorized user account:

Contact David Conover's office (Room 5-8132, ext. 5-1787). You will need to bring a signed Blue Requisition (312 form) with valid account # and will need to schedule training for all laboratory personnel on the proper use of the equipment. Each authorized account is issued a key to the X-Omat room and the current combination to the door lock. The combination is changed at the time of billing (on or about June 1 and December 1).
