FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

We’re excited to let you know that the University now has a new funding opportunities and profile software product called Pivot. For those of you who are familiar with the current GENIUS/SMARTS/SPIN product used by the University, Pivot differs from the GENIUS profile component in that Pivot populates a profile automatically from the user’s web site, so there is no manual entry required.

Pivot focuses on what matters most to you: the ability to identify and connect with funding opportunities and with other researchers—locally and globally. It combines a comprehensive database of funding opportunities, some of which may not be included in the SPIN database, with a unique database of 3 million scholar profiles—and growing.

Take a second now to see how to perform searches, receive funding alerts, and connect with collaborators through Pivot. Be sure to also take advantage of the free live and recorded training webinars, support resources, and more! For those of you who are currently subscribed to the GENIUS/SMARTS/SPIN product, you will still receive funding opportunities emails through that software application also through September 30, 2013. If you do not wish to receive these SMARTS emails, you may send an email to charlene.sinclair@rochester.edu or cholm@orpa.rochester.edu and ask to be removed from the system.

The Foundation Center

This well known database provides information on private grant-making foundations, community foundations, operating foundations, and corporate grant makers. Records include entries from the following Foundation Center print publications: The Foundation Directory, The Foundation Directory, part 2, New York State Foundations, Guide to U.S. Foundations, and National Directory of Corporate Giving. Principal sources of information are voluntary reports by many grant makers directly to the Foundation Center and information obtained from public information returns (990's)filed each year with the Internal Revenue Service by private foundations. Updated monthly, the directory contains information about the largest public and private foundations in the U.S. and links to foundation web sites.

To access Foundation Directory, start from the link on the Library's Find Databases pages: http://www.lib.rochester.edu/index.cfm?page=13&StartLtr=F
