Returning to campus after a long and relaxing break

When you break your arm, you see a professional. If you hurt your back or are plagued by migraines, same thing. But what if you are stressed out or you dread each new day so much that you don't even want to get out of bed? Are you as quick to seek professional help? Very often, the answer is "no."

Many people have an idea about therapy—mostly conjured up from TV shows or movies. What many people don't realize—and what you can tell your friend if he or she is skeptical about seeking treatment, is that finding the right counselor can mean a relationship with someone who allows you to open up more than you ever have before, whose sole purpose is to listen to you and understand your perspective.

If you think you would benefit from speaking with a counselor, the UR Counseling Center is here to help. Call us at (585) 275-3113. If you want to find out if the symptoms you are feeling are consistent with a mood or anxiety disorder, visit Screening for Mental Health and complete our brief, anonymous online screening.
