Merit-based Financial Aid

Warner Awards: Scholarships and Assistantships
The Warner School is committed to assisting qualified students finance their graduate study in education. In 2006-07, the Warner School awarded about $1.5 million in scholarships and assistantships in recognition of our students’ academic excellence, professional accomplishment, and leadership in their fields, and to ensure a diverse student body. Merit-based assistance is awarded in all admissions cycles.

Warner financial aid can be applied to Warner School courses only. Such aid cannot be applied to courses taken at other colleges within the University of Rochester, or at any other institution.

To be considered for merit-based financial assistance, complete the financial aid section of the application form (page 2). Individuals usually may apply only once for assistance, at the same time they apply for admission.

External Sources of Funding
Many private and public organizations provide financial assistance (usually in the form of grants) to eligible students pursuing graduate study. Warner encourages students to pursue outside funding and requests disclosure of any external awards on the admission application form and during the loan process.

Employer Funding
Many employers provide tuition benefits. Warner encourages applicants to contact the human resources department at their place of employment to explore benefits that may be available. Warner requests disclosure of any employer funding on the admission application.

International Applications
The Warner School welcomes the application of international students. International students admitted to the Warner School are required to present proof of their ability to meet the expenses before entering the United States and/or the University.

International doctoral applicants who are awarded financial aid from the Warner School still need to provide financing for health and insurance fees, books, and miscellaneous living expenses.

International master's students are required to pay all of their expenses in the current academic year.

The International Services Office of the University of Rochester can provide additional advice or information.
