Besides the more than 330 print Education journal subscriptions
(see accompanying list), users have access to hundreds of
Education electronic journals through fulltext database providers
such as ProQuest and Education Abstracts. Each electronic
journal is cataloged in Voyager, the library’s online
catalog, and many databases use SFX technology to link to
the article if the fulltext is not available directly in the
database.
Access to resources is virtually unlimited. The Interlibrary
Loan Department can obtain, at no charge, most books and articles
not owned by the libraries. In addition, graduate students
and faculty may obtain a regional borrowing card to borrow
materials in-person at other libraries in the Rochester area.
Information and Research Help
Reference librarians are also subject specialists and
the subject librarian/reference librarian for the Warner School
is Kathy McGowan. Kathy has been the education specialist
since 1981. She works closely with faculty and students to
ensure that the collection is relevant to Warner’s needs.
She conducts classes on education research tied to specific
Warner classes and Warner students consult her regularly.
The library has resource/reserve pages targeted to each Warner
class. For example, students in Master’s Research Methods
(ED 406) can start from one page on the library’s Web
site [http://www.lib.rochester.edu]
to access these materials and more: online reserve articles
and book chapters, databases most relevant for their needs,
the library catalog, and interlibrary loan forms.
