Get Real!

Get Real! Science is a teacher preparation program designed to engage students in real science--not abstract concepts and ideas. Students learn and teach science through an inquiry-based approach.

This 15-month science teacher preparation graduate program is grounded in authentic experiences and consists of the following unique features:

> A series of scaffolded non-traditional (low-stakes, highly supportive), authentic inquiry-based teaching and learning experiences complemented by traditional student teaching field work each of three semesters of the program. These experiences include:

• Scientific Inquiry as Learners
• Get Real! Science Action Camp
• Rochester Science Educator's Conference
• Paired Fall Student Teaching Placements
• Science Thursday's
• Solo Spring Student Teaching Placements

> An innovative public and professional online space called POST-IT (Professional Online Science Teachers' Identity Tool) for each teacher used to support participants in developing a sense of professional identity through reflection and interaction with various communities (kids, colleagues, peers, and professors).

In the Get Real! program, students don't just learn about ideas an concepts, they experience them.
