General Information
The primary goal of this institute is to provide new and experienced
teachers with opportunities to learn and practice the skills
needed to create, perform, and integrate music into the elementary
curriculum. This course will emphasize the intrinsic value
of music and its ability to help students analyze, synthesize,
and evaluate ideas, recognize the cultural contribution of
music to society, and make connections between concepts and
across subjects.
Participants will be engaged in practical, hands-on activities
and experiences that promote the development of musical knowledge
and skill, while gaining a better understanding of major theories
and philosophies related to learning music in childhood. They
will also learn how to develop integrated curriculum in ways
that account for state and national learning standards. No
prior musical ability is required.
