Larson Edits Handbook of Early Childhood Literacy

Joanne Larson, associate professor and chair, teaching and curriculum, edited the recently published Handbook of Early Childhood Literacy (Sage Publications, October 2003).

Larson and Warner doctoral student Shira May Peterson contributed a chapter of the handbook titled "Talk and Discourse in Formal Learning Settings."

The handbook brings together writers who explore contemporary political, cultural, and cognitive understandings of early childhood literacy, review the current field of literacy, and present important new research.

Sections of the book include Perspectives on Early Childhood Literacy, Early Childhood Literacy in Families, Communities, and Cultures, and Researching Early Childhood Literacy.
