From April 24 - 28, the Warner School will welcome a team
of National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
(NCATE) examiners, including individuals from both higher
education and teachers in the field. Over the five-day visit
they will conduct faculty and student interviews and visit
area schools. NCATE's accreditation system is performance-based,
and as a result, their time will also be spent reviewing documents
and materials (collected over the past two years) as evidence
of our student's ability to meet professional, state, and
NCATE standards for teachers, administrators, and school counselors.
NCATE is interested in all of the teacher preparation programs
across the University. Music education, even though it is
already accredited by the National Association of Schools
of Music, will be included in the NCATE evaluation. Doctoral
programs and those in higher education, human development,
and community counseling will not be included in the NCATE
review.
