Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships
Dissertation Fellowships
Through its program of Diversity Fellowships, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation's college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. This year the program will award approximately 35 dissertation fellowships. The dissertation fellowships provide one year of support for individuals working to complete a dissertation leading to a Ph.D. or Sc.D. degree. Research in Reading and Literacy
International Reading Association
The Nila Banton Smith Research Dissemination Support Grant will provide funding of up to $5,000 to support a member of the International Reading Association in spending from two to 10 months working on a research dissemination activity. Deadline: January 15, 2005

The Helen M. Robinson Grant is a $1,500 award given annually to assist doctoral students at the early stages of their dissertation research in the area of reading and literacy. Applicants must be association members. Deadline: January 15, 2005

AIR/NCES/NSF Grant Program
Improving Institutional Research in Postsecondary Educational Institutions
Dissertation fellowship proposals are solicited from doctoral students beginning their dissertation work. Fellowship support (up to $15,000) is available for one year only to assist the student in the acquisition, analysis, and reporting of data from the NCES and NSF data sets. Funded fellowship projects promise a significant contribution to the national knowledge of the nature and operation of postsecondary education. Deadline: January 15, 2005

James Madison Graduate Fellowships
Each year, the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation makes available at least one graduate-level fellowship worth up to $24,000 in each state. James Madison Fellowships emphasize the framing, principles, and history of the Constitution. Current and prospective secondary school teachers of American history, American government, and social studies are eligible to apply. Deadline: March 1, 2005

AERA Minority Fellowships
This program offers doctoral fellowships to enhance the competitiveness of outstanding minority scholars for academic appointments at major research universities by supporting them in conducting research and by providing mentoring and guidance toward the completion of their doctoral studies. Fellowships are awarded for doctoral thesis research conducted under faculty sponsorship in any accredited university in the U.S. Fellows will receive an academic year stipend of $10,000. Fellowships may be supplemented by campus or department awards and tuition waivers. Deadline: March 1, 2005
