Curry Publishes Article, Delivers Talk
Mary Jane Curry, assistant professor, co-wrote the article “Multilingual Scholars and the Imperataive to Publish in English: Negotiating Interests, Demands, and Rewards,” which appeared in volume 38(4) of the TESOL Quarterly.

In addition, Curry delivered the talk “The Global Imperative of English in Academic Publishing: the Experiences of Scholars in Eastern Europe,” to the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies in February.

Guiffrida Published in Equity and Excellence in Education
Douglas Guiffrida, assistant professor, published the article “To Break Away or Strengthen Ties to Home: A Complex Issue for African American College Students Attending Predominantly White Institution” in the February edition of Equity and Excellence in Education.

Ares Co-writes Two Articles
Nancy Ares, assistant professor, co-wrote two recently published articles. “Geographies of Difference: The Constuction of the Eastside, Westside, and Central City School” appeared in the winter issue of the American Educational Research Journal; and “A Dialectic Analysis of Generativity: Issues of Network Supported Design in Mathematics and Science” was published in volume 7 issue 3 of The Mathematical Thinking and Learning Journal.

Hursh, Martina Published in Defending Public Schools
David Hursh, associate professor, along with doctoral student Camille Martina, contributed a chapter to the recently published book Defending Public Schools, Volumes 1-4 (Greenwood Publishing Group, Inc (September 2004).

In addition, over the last several months, Hursh has given invited presentations at the universities of London, Plymouth, Bristol, Glasgow, Horthampton, and Sussex on neoliberalism and education in the U.S.

Faculty/Staff Join Warner
Several new faculty and staff have joined the Warner School in recent months.

In the finance area, Paul Wollke is the new director of finance and Patty Peters is the bookkeeper.

Kim Cardone has joined development and communications as secretary.

Janet Moore is the new faculty secretary in teaching and curriculum.

In ScienceStart!, Sr. Dianne Crowley is the family literacy coordinator, and Julie Sweeney is a classroom mentor.

Martha Mock is a visiting assistant professor in early childhood education with a ScienceStart! appointment as a classroom mentor.
