Santora Receives AERA Award, Presents Paper
Ellen Santora, assistant professor, received the Research in Social Studies Education Best Paper Award for “Electronic Portfolios in Social Studies Education: Are They Suitable for Transfromative Reflection and Theorizing” at the 2005 American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting in April.

Santora also presented “The Theory and Practice of Democratic Education as Seen in Pre-Service Teachers’ Electronic Portfolios” at the Society for Information Technology in Teacher Education conference in Phoenix, Ariz. in March.

Guiffrida Publishes Paper
Douglas Guiffrida, assistant professor, published “The Emergence Model: An Alternative Pedagogy for Facilitating Self-Reflection and Theoretical Fit in Counseling Students” in the volume 4, number 3 issue of Counselor Education and Supervision.

Monroe-Baillargeon Meets with Visitors from Turkmenistan
Ann Monroe-Baillargeon met with a group from Turkmenistan in February to discuss teacher preparation in the U.S., and in particular, preparing teachers to teach all children. The visit was arranged by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Kirschenbaum, Jourdan Publish Paper
Howard Kirschenbaum, professor, and doctoral student April Jourdan, published the article “The Current Status of Carl Rogers and the Person-Centered Approach” in the volume 42, number 1 issue of Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, Practice, Training.

Hursh Publishes Article, Presents on Education Reforn
David Hursh, associate professor, published the article “Undermining Democratic Education in the USA: The Consequences of Global Capitalism and Neo-liberal Policies for Education Policies at the Local, State, and Federal Levels,” in Policy Futures in Education, Vol. 2, No. 3/4.

In addition, he presented “Defending Public Education: Responding to the Attack on Public Education and the Push for High-Stakes Testing and Privatization,” first presentation in the series “Improving Education Reform: High Standards, Local Control and Testing Relief,” at Nazareth College in March.

Douthit, G. Rubenstein Present at ACA Conference
Kathryn Douthit, assistant professor, and Gerald Rubenstein, assistant professor, each presented at the annual conference of the American Counseling Association in April. Douthit presented “An Ecological View of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: Empirical Challenges to the Psychopathology Model,” and Rubenstein co-presented “Somatherapeutics: The Challenges of Working with the Body in Counseling and Psychotherapy or Why You Cannot Be in the Present Tense.”
