New Faculty to Join Warner
Many new faces will be seen around Warner in the coming months. Joining the Warner School this year are a number of new faculty members.
Anna-Ruth Allen, assistant professor, teaching and curriculum, has researched literacy across the curriculum; sociocultural approaches to literacy and learning; adolescent development in and out of schools; and language, culture, and education. She expects her Ph.D. this summer from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Deborah Erickson, professor (clinical), counseling and human development, and director of academic programs and student services, earned her Ph.D. at the University of Sydney, Australia and has held the position of professor at St. John Fisher College. In addition to teaching and supervising students in the counseling program, Erickson will direct academic programs and student services at Warner.
Evelyn Kirst, instructor, educational leadership, earned her M.S. at Niagara University. She will be the director of the leadership program for Catholic and other private schools. Kirst was principal of Our Lady of Mercy High School.
Sherri Lauver, assistant professor (clinical), Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform, will teach courses on program evaluation and other research methods, and will organize and direct a new certification program on program evaluation as part of the Kauffman Foundation-funded initiative on educational Entrepreneurship. Lauver earned her Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania and has been a research assistant at the Institute of Education Sciences since 2003.
Andre Marquis, assistant professor, counseling and human development, earned a Ph.D. at the University of North Texas. His teaching and research interests include counseling theories, lifespan development, community counseling, constructivist counseling, psychodynamics, and the integral philosophy of Ken Wilbur and its application as an approach to counseling, teaching, and supervision. Marquis has held positions at Northeastern State University and the Society for Constructivism in the Human Sciences.
Kevin O’Connor, assistant professor, counseling and human development, earned his Ph.D. at Clark University. His teaching interests include theories of human development, learning theories, culture and human development, culture and cognitive development, child and adolescent development, as well as qualitative research methods and discourse analysis. Most recently, O’Connor was a researcher and lecturer at the University of Washington, Seattle.
Dena Phillips Swanson, assistant professor, counseling and human development, focuses her research on adolescent identity processes, school experiences, and the impact of adult relations on youth’s adaptive behaviors. She earned her Ph.D. at Emory University. Swanson was previously an assisant professor at Pennsylvania State University.
Ruthanne Vitagliano, visiting assistant professor, educational leadership, earned a Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo. She has taught at the Warner School as an adjunct faculty member since 2000 and teaches courses on curricular and instructional leadership, as well as decision making and organizational dynamics, and supervises administrative internships.
