Mendez Presents at English Language Learners
Consortium
Warner master’s student Alex Mendez, along with Warner alumnae Laura Waterstripe, M.S. ’05, and Carrie Cain, M.S. ’05, presented their research projects at the English Language Learners Consortium at Nazareth College in June. The presentation was organized by Mary Jane Curry, assisant professor.
Abas Presents Two Workshops
Doctoral student Peter Abas presented “Rhythmic Art: Counselor Creates Empathy with Elderly Through Peaceful Hand Drumming” at the New York Counseling Association conference in Buffalo in October. Abas also presented a workshop on the topic “Challenges and Opportunities Ministering to Asian-American Catholics” at the Multicultural Convocation 2005 at Nazareth College in October.
Hackett Named Brighton High School Principal
Doctoral student Nancy Hackett has been named the new Brighton High School principal. Hackett was formerly a principal at the Harley School in Brighton.
Farra Accepts Position at RMSC
Doctoral student Laura Farra has accepted the position of assistant director of education, museum programs, at the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
Students Join Faculty and Alumna for Presentation
Master’s students Gregory Hart, Joe Henderson, William Huynh, Shannon Mahar; doctoral student Jessica Cuculick; Warner alumna Laura Waterstripe, M.S. ’05; and David Hursh, associate professor, presented “Examining the Past; Imagining the Future: Using Autobiography to Examine Class, Race, Gender, and Disability Inequalities in Education” at the 10th annual conference on Working Class Academics at Ithaca College in July.

Doctoral student Rabia Hos was hightlighted in an article on Turkish-American culture in the September 19 issue of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
Dettman Presents at National Conference
Doctoral student Donna Dettman presented “Taking a Chance and Rolling the Dice: Advising the Have-Nots in a Have-Lots World” at the National Academic Advising Association in Las Vegas, Nev., in October.
