Quinn Receives Fulbright Teaching Assistantship
Alexandra Quinn, a master’s student in teaching and curriculum, was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to France for the 2006-2007 school year. Under the Fulbright program, Quinn will be teaching English at a teacher training university in Nice.
Cassata Presents Paper
Doctoral student Amy Cassata presented the paper “Using Concept Mapping to Facilitate Metacognitive Control in Preschool Children,” at the Second Annual International Conference on Concept Mapping in San Jose, Costa Rica in September. Her paper was co-written with Lucia French, professor.
Curry, Tang Present at Conference
Mary Jane Curry, assistant professor, and doctoral student Matilda Tang were presenters at the American Association of Applied Linguistics conference in Montreal in June. Curry presented “The Emergence of Nontraditional Students’ Language Awareness in a Telephone-Taught Access Program,” and Tang presented “Because Being a Housewife has a Lot of Things to Learn, Too,” a literacy case study.Recent Counseling Graduates Hired by RCSD
The Rochester City School District hired 10 new school counselors this summer, and six were Warner graduates: Jamie Salatino, School Without Walls; Stacy Fravel, Northeast College Preparatory High School at Dr. Freddie Thomas; Aaren Hittepole, BioScience & Health Careers High School at Franklin; Barbara Lattimore Walker, the School of Business, Finance, and Entrepreneurship at Edison; Chris Reagan-Perrotta, Youth and Justice Program; and Nakia Burrows, Northwest College Preparatory High School at John Marshall.
Ghazle Keynotes at Convocation
Doctoral student Hamad Ghazle was selected to give the keynote speech at RIT’s convocation for new students and families in August.
Abas Facilitates Healing Journey for Elderly, Presents at Nazareth
Doctoral student Peter Abas facilitated an eight-week session on “Sacred Stories—Healing Journey” for the elderly at St. Anne Church in Rochester.
In addition, Abas presented “Diversity, Unity, and Harmony: Realizing Human Potential with the Heartbeat of Drums” at the Organizational Behavior Teaching Conference at Nazareth College in June.
Blokhuis Elected to Board
Doctoral Student Jason Blokhuis has been elected to the board of the New York State Association of Teacher Educators as the student representative.
