Tips on How to Get Funded through Fellowships and Scholarships

October 28, 2003

Overview
Fellowships and scholarships can provide not only financial support to conduct one’s research, but also considerable prestige and help in one’s academic career. While there are a number of fellowships and scholarships available for doctoral students and faculty in education, most of us do not know much about these opportunities. The goal of this session is (a) to get to know what is currently available, along with relevant restrictions and deadlines, and (b) to share tips about what it takes to put together a successful application for various kinds of scholarships/fellowships.

Panelists
Sue Keefe (Warner grant coordinator); Shira May Peterson (recipient of a Spencer Dissertation Fellowship); Jeannine Dingus (former recipient of a Spencer Dissertation Fellowship); Randy Curren (former recipient of a Spencer post-Doctoral Fellowship); Bruce Kimball (on committee awarding xx Fellowships).

Who should come?
Faculty and doctoral students interested in funding their research through scholarships and fellowships; faculty and doctoral students who have been awarded a scholarship/ fellowship and would like to help other do the same; faculty interested in supporting their students’ application to fellowships/scholarships.
