2001-02 Warner School Award for Excellence in High School Teaching

Nearly 70 teachers Honored in Rochester Region
Nearly seventy educators from five area county high schools received 2001-02 Awards for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching from the Warner School.

The awards are given to student-centered teachers who use innovative teaching techniques and believe that all children can learn and do learn in unique ways. Recipients must demonstrate a thorough knowledge and enthusiasm for their subject, give well-organized and imaginative lessons, offer clear and interesting explanations of important concepts, and create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning. In most cases, student groups at the schools are involved in the selection of the teacher.

The award celebration is made possible by a grant from Marion A. and Leonard S. Simon. Mrs. Simon graduated from the University of Rochester with a doctoral degree in education, has taught school at the secondary level, and held several professional positions in local institutions of higher education. Mr. Simon is the retired Vice Chairman of Charter One Financial, Inc., the holding company of Charter One Bank.
