2002-03 Warner School Award for Excellence in High School
Teaching
The awards are given to student-centered teachers who use
innovative teaching techniques and believe that all children
can learn and do learn in unique ways. Recipients must demonstrate
a thorough knowledge and enthusiasm for their subject, give
well-organized and imaginative lessons, offer clear and interesting
explanations of important concepts, and create a classroom
atmosphere conducive to learning. In most cases, student groups
at the schools are involved in the selection of the teacher.
The award celebration is made possible by a grant from Drs.
Marion A. and Leonard S. Simon. Dr. Marion Simon graduated
from the University of Rochester with a doctoral degree in
education, has taught school at the secondary level, and held
several professional positions in local institutions of higher
education. Dr. Leonard Simon is the retired Vice Chairman
of Charter One Financial, Inc., the holding company of Charter
One Bank.
This 2003 award ceremony will be held at the Memorial Art
Gallery, on Wednesday, May 14, 2003.
