Karch demonstrates leadership, credits Warner School
Alumnus Martin Karch ('93, M.S.) was selected by the
School Administrators Association of New York State
(SAANYS) to receive the 6,300-member organization's
2001-2002 Leadership and Support Award. The award recognizes
outstanding leadership efforts of SAANYS members whose
responsibilities require leadership through support
services to fellow administrators. Karch is the director
of computer services in the Rush-Henrietta School District
where he has worked for 29 years. Among his accomplishments,
he created 28 district computer labs, oversaw the upgrade
of the district's food services point-of-sale system,
and connected the district to the community through
the development of a new district Web site and a distance-learning
room. "My hat is off to Martin for being the visionary
that keeps Rush-Henrietta at the leading edge,"
said Mark Turner, principal of Rush-Henrietta Elementary
School.
Karch credits much of his success to his positive experience
at the Warner School. He particularly praises the School's
emphasis on connecting theory to practice and its "topnotch"
faculty. Because classes are small, he noted, all the
students get actively involved. "I wouldn't be
where I am now without Sister Edwardine and the Warner
School," he said. "They pushed me in directions
where I didn't actually want to go."
Satisfied graduates are the Warner School's best marketing
tools. "If you're going to be an administrator,"
he advises, "do it right. Go to the Warner School."
