The Warner Word

Gifts of Note
The Warner School has been the recipient of a number of generous gifts over the past several months. These donors or their families have been thanked by the Dean on behalf of the School, and we take great pleasure in announcing their generous gifts:

Marion (Ed.D. `80) and Leonard Simon have committed $62,500 over the next five years to sustain and improved the annual Awards for Excellence in High School Teaching. Marion, a philanthropy and development consultant, serves on the Dean's Advisory Committee.

Theresa Canada Ed.D. '89 established a charitable remainder trust to benefit the Warner School with a gift of $10,000. Theresa, an associate professor of education and educational psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University, is a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee.

The late Evelyn K. Jones, wife of the late Frank Wallace Jones, who graduated from the University in 1938 with a degree in education, left a trust with an estimated value of $150,000 to the Warner School. A first payment of $100,000 was received in June 2002.

Frank Zappella M.A. `55, a retired teacher and chair of English, speech, and drama at Eastridge High School, left the Warner School an insurance annuity valued at $8,000. Frank, who passed away in March 2002, earmarked the gift for teacher training.
