Gifts
of Note Marion (Ed.D. `80) and Leonard Simon have committed $62,500 over the next five years to sustain and improved the annual Awards for Excellence in High School Teaching. Marion, a philanthropy and development consultant, serves on the Dean's Advisory Committee. Theresa Canada Ed.D. '89 established a charitable remainder trust to benefit the Warner School with a gift of $10,000. Theresa, an associate professor of education and educational psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University, is a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee. The late Evelyn K. Jones, wife of the late Frank Wallace Jones, who graduated from the University in 1938 with a degree in education, left a trust with an estimated value of $150,000 to the Warner School. A first payment of $100,000 was received in June 2002. Frank Zappella M.A. `55, a retired teacher and chair of English, speech, and drama at Eastridge High School, left the Warner School an insurance annuity valued at $8,000. Frank, who passed away in March 2002, earmarked the gift for teacher training.
