Danuenhauer
Wins Geriatrics Award
Jason Dauenhauer, a doctoral student in counseling and human development,
received the Rochester Academy of Medicine's 2002 Geriatrics Award for his
paper "Late Life Depression." Jason summarized his paper at a
poster session held during the Academy's annual meeting on May 14, 2002.
With four colleagues, he also co-authored an article "Challenges Associated
with Providing Physical Therapy for Elderly People: Implications for Graduate
Education," which appeared in the Spring 2002 issue of the Journal
of Physical Therapy Education.
D'Aoust
Wins University Teaching Awards
Rita D'Aoust, senior associate in the School of Nursing and a doctoral
student in the Warner School's teaching and curriculum program, received
the Edward Peck Curtis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching
at commencement in May. Rita, who has developed two new accelerated programs
for non-nurses who already have baccalaureate degrees, also received the
nursing school Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Fetzer Elected to National Board
Marie Fetzner, a Ph.D. candidate in leadership and policy, has been elected
to the national board of the Association of Women in Community Colleges
(AAWCC) as the Region II (New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico) Director
for 2002-2004. Marie was also a co-presenter at the Association for Institutional
Research Annual Forum held in Toronto in June 2002; her topic was "Success
in Cyberspace: Student Retention in Online Courses."
Peterson
Earns Travel Award
Shira May Peterson, a Scandling Scholar who works with Lucia French on
early childhood literacy, has been awarded a prestigious AERA/Spencer
Pre-Dissertation Fellowship for travel to two AERA/Spencer Foundation
Institutes and the AERA Annual Meeting in Chicago in April 2003. Additionally,
she will be paired with a mentor at another institution who does work
in a related area. These fellowships recognize the most promising young
scholars in the education fields. |
