Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Counseling Accelerated Option (ISIS code: CA9)

  • What happens if I cannot start in summer?
  • What happens if I cannot keep to the required program sequence?
  • What happens if I change or lose my job?
  • What happens if I cannot arrange one of my internship in the summer?

What happens if I cannot start in summer?
If you are admitted in Fall or Spring (instead of Summer), will not be able to join a new cohort until the following Summer (and, therefore, you will need more than three years to complete the program). Students who are admitted in Fall or Spring may, however, with the consent of their advisor, begin to take some of their elective courses so as to lighten their load in the program later on.

What happens if I cannot keep to the required program sequence?
Once accepted into a cohort, you are expected to maintain the pace indicated in the “ Program at a glance” in order to benefit from the cohort experience. If unforeseen personal or professional events cause you to require a leave of absence, you need to discuss your unique situation with your advisor, in order to determine whether you need to move to the regular Ed.D. program or there are better alternative solutions.

What happens if I change or lose my job?
Students in an accelerated Ed.D. option are expected to be holding a professional job that provides a site in which to conduct a field-based dissertation. If at any point in your program you are promoted or the job is eliminated for reasons beyond your control, you need to discuss your situation with your advisor; if you are able to secure another research site, you are likely to be allowed to continue in the accelerated option with your cohort, otherwise you may need to move to the regular Ed.D. program.
