More Information About the Administrative Internship
Since 2001, New York State requires the administrative internship to be equivalent to 15 weeks full time (i.e., about a total of 500 hours). The Warner School is open to a variety of arrangements provided that they meet this requirement. Most administrative internships will take place over multiple semesters and students can enroll for ED 498 multiple times and for variable credits, for a total of 6 credits overall.
The internship is designed to enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed by school leaders at both the building and district levels; therefore, it will include experiences at both of these levels under the supervision of a site supervisor who has both building and district level certification (or two supervisors, one holding building level certification and the other holding district level certification). The precise nature of each administrative internship will be defined by the student with the approval of his/her university advisor and field supervisor(s) so as to meet all the requirements articulated by NYSED and professional organizations. Students engaging in the internships will also be expected to attend seminars organized to support their experiences and provide a forum for sharing and discussing experiences with their peers.
Students are encouraged to arrange for internship sites in their own schools or school districts, although additional experiences outside of that setting may need to be arranged if the chosen site does not allow to meet all the requirements for the internship.
