Programs for Current Elementary Teachers


If you already have a NYS Initial Certification as a generalist to teach at the elementary level (i.e., at grades K-6, 1-6, or birth to grade 2), we offer programs that will allow you to:

(a) obtain NYS Professional Certification in your current area of specialization AND/OR

(b) pursue additional certifications and/or extensions.

Or, you can directly check the program of study (including course and credit requirements, length of study, and sample course sequences for part-time and full-time study) for a specific option from the list below.

NOTE: All Masters' programs listed here (with the only exception of those leading to K-12 school administration certification) will enable you to obtain NYS Professional Certification in your current area of certification, if needed.

Programs leading to certification to teach at different grades at the elementary level:

  • Program (SA1). Early Childhood (for elementary teachers)
  • Program (NA1). Non-degree program - Early Childhood (for elementary teachers)
  • Program (SA2). M.S. in Education - Childhood (for early childhood teachers)
  • Program (NA2). Non-degree program - Childhood (for elementary teachers)

Programs leading to certification in Teaching Students with Disabilities in Early Childhood/Childhood:

  • Program (PA3). M.S. in Inclusive Education - Teaching Students with Disabilities in Early Childhood
  • Program (DA1). Non-degree program - Teaching Students with Disabilities in Early Childhood
  • Program (PA4). M.S. in Inclusive Education - Teaching Students with Disabilities in Childhood
  • Program (DA2). Non-degree program - Teaching Students with Disabilities in Childhood

Programs leading to certification in Teaching Literacy (birth - grade 6):

  • Program (SR1). M.S. in Teaching Literacy (Reading and Literacies birth to grade 6)
  • Program (NR1). Non-degree program - Teaching Literacy (birth to grade 6)
