Additional Inclusion Assessments for Students Seeking Dual Certification in Teaching Students with Disabilities
First Certification: Students seeking their very first teaching certification and pursuing Initial and Professional certification simultaneously
Additional Certification: Students who are seeking Initial and Professional certification in THIS area, but already have another teaching certification in a different area
Professional Certification Only: Students who have obtained initial teaching certification in the SAME area through an undergraduate degree and are seeking professional certification in that area (possibly with extension to other grades and/or inclusive classrooms)
Admissions Content Preparation Review: self-assessment of content preparation, to be reviewed and finalized at the admission interview with the faculty interviewer; to be filled in by the applicant prior to their admissions interview
NYS-CST: standardized assessment of content knowledge in the subject matter of specialization; NYS licensure test, administered directly by NYSED, to be taken as soon as possible after admission
NYS-LAST: standardized assessment of general content knowledge (same for all teacher candidates); NYS licensure test, administered directly by NYSED, to be taken as soon as possible after admission
NYS-ATS-W: standardized assessment of pedagogical knowledge (same for all secondary teacher candidates); NYS licensure test, administered directly by NYSED, to be taken before graduation but after having completed most of the coursework
Field Experiences Evaluation: evaluation form to be completed at the end of each field experience by the cooperating teacher, the university supervisor and the faculty supervisor
Student Teaching Evaluation: evaluation form to be completed at the end of each student teaching placement by the cooperating teacher, the university supervisor and the faculty supervisor
Lesson Plan: assignment to be completed in the first “methods” course; rubrics to be filled in by the candidate and the course instructor
Innovative Unit: assignment to be completed during the second “methods” course (literacy methods for elementary and early childhood candidates); rubrics to be filled in by the candidate and the course instructor
Comprehensive Portfolio: Master’s degree program culminating assessment for all candidates seeking their first initial teaching certification; rubrics to be filled by the advisor and another faculty member (assigned by T&C Chair)
Master’s Essay: Master’s degree program culminating assessment for all candidates other than those seeking their first initial teaching certification; rubrics to be filled by the advisor and another faculty member (assigned by T&C Chair)
Disciplinary Knowledge Paper: assignment to be completed in the first science methods course; rubrics to be filled in by candidate and instructor
Safety Audit: assignment to be completed in the second science methods course; rubrics to be filled in by candidate and instructor
Science Investigation: assignment to be completed in the “Integrating Science and Literacy” course; rubrics to be filled in by candidate and instructor
Get Real! Science Camp Project: assignment to be completed in the “Integrating Science and Technology” course; rubrics to be filled in by candidate and instructor
