Warner School Teaching and Curriculum programs prepare students
to approach curricular and pedagogical decisions as
thoughtful practitioners, with a deep understanding of their
subject matter within the social context where schooling takes
place. Every Warner student is given
the tools to be a teacher for today, as well as the knowledge
and experiences to grow and learn to become a teacher for
tomorrow.
Our programs are customized to meet the needs of prospective and current teachers specializing in many different subject areas, grade levels and instructional settings. To identify the programs that can meet your background and interests, choose first of all from the following options:
Programs preparing entry-level teachers: These are programs leading to NYS Initial and Professional Teaching Certification in most available specializations, and are designed for individuals who do not yet have any teaching certification. By selecting this option, you can learn more about what specializations we offer at the entry level, what subject matter pre-requisites each requires, and what alternative programs are available within each specialization.
Programs for current teachers: These programs are designed for individuals who already hold a NYS Teaching Certification and are interested in pursuing NYS Professional Certification in that area AND/OR in obtaining new certifications to teach different subjects, grade levels or audiences (so as to broaden their horizons and become more marketable). By selecting this option, you can learn more about all the opportunities available to you based on your current area of specializations.
Programs for teachers seeking ADDITIONAL certifications: These are programs leading to NYS Initial and Professional Teaching Certification for teachers already holding NYS Teaching Certification in some area (and who, therefore, do not need to complete the same coursework and internship as entry-level teachers). By selecting this option, you can learn more about what specializations we offer for current teachers seeking additional certifications, what subject matter pre-requisites each requires, and what alternative programs are available within each specialization.
M.S. in Teaching and Curriculum for educators NOT interested in NYS Teaching Certification: We also offer a Master's program that does not lead to any NYS certification, and could be of particular interest for educators outside of the preK-12 school system who are interested in learning more about learning, teaching and curriculum. This program is extremely flexible, and could be designed to meet a variety of individual interests and career needs.
