Programs to Obtain NYS Certification in Teaching Students with Disabilities

Since 2001, NYS has eliminated the former teaching certification in Special Education (grades K-12) and substituted it with a set of new certifications in Teaching Students with Disabilities, each specializing in a specific subject and grade level (see list below).

At the Warner School, entry-level teachers seeking their first teaching certification can pursue certification in Teaching Students with Disabilities only as a dual certification, alongside with certification for teaching the same subject matter(s) and grade levels in mainstream settings.
