Description
The Almanac of Higher Education is published annually
by the National Education Association (NEA). Harold Wechsler
annually edits and supervises its publication. He commissions
articles, collaborating on the concept and execution of each,
critiques drafts, edits text, and works with production staff.
Each issue contains faculty salary and benefit survey data,
as well as articles of particular interest to educators. The
2003 issue, for example, contains articles about higher education
finance in a time of recession, institutional issues related
to the use of technology, and acadmic employment in the 21st
century. That tenth anniversary issue was redesigned to contain
the latest salary survey data and electronic files from previous
issues of the Almanac on an enclosed CD-ROM disk.
Founded in 1857 "to elevate the character and advance
the interests of the profession of teaching and to promote
the cause of popular education in the United States,"
the Association is the nation's leading organization committed
to advancing the cause of public education. NEA has 2.7 million
members who work at every level of education, from pre-school
to university graduate program, with affiliates in every state,
as well as in more than 13,000 local communities across the
United States.
