Project Overview
Joanne Larson, Professor and Chair of the Teaching and Curriculum program at the Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, and teachers at Henry Hudson School 28 in the Rochester City School District have been working together for over five years. We have three teachers from local suburbs who join us in spite of the travel time. We focus on transforming our literacy practices in order to prepare our students for participation in an information and communication economy. We meet once a month throughout the school year and for a week in the summer to discuss books and/or articles we have read and classroom innovations. The group has grown over the years, although we remain a small group of dedicated professionals, each with more than ten years of experience teaching. Most of the teachers have more than 20 years experience in the classroom. This year we have one of the Warner school's new graduates attending while she figures out her first year of teaching.
