Non-matriculated enrollment allows qualified students to take graduate courses in their area of interest, without being admitted by the Warner School to a degree program. (International students on F-1 visas are, unfortunately, not eligible for this status.)
As a practitioner you may wish to become more knowledgeable in a certain area, or you may wish to take some graduate level courses on a part-time basis to see whether you want to apply to a graduate degree program. A number of our matriculated students began their studies in just this way.
Credits taken as a non-matriculated student may be applied toward a graduate degree at the Warner School if you are later accepted to a degree program. Retroactive credit (including courses taken as a non-matriculated student) is negotiated after admission and approved with a student’s program of study. Therefore, it is advised that students take no more than 9 credits before matriculating to minimize the risk that such coursework may not count toward their chosen program. No student will be granted a degree without acceptance and matriculation into a Warner School program, regardless of the number of credits completed.
Non-matriculated students are not assigned an advisor. Courses that are taken as a non-matriculated student may or may not apply to a particular degree program. Use care when selecting courses.
If you are considering applying to one of our programs eventually, we advise meeting with admissions staff prior to registering as a non-matriculated student. The admissions staff can help you understand the admissions process, answer questions about the School, and offer suggestions for course registration.
If you are interested in taking classes only for personal enrichment, you may feel free to do so with no strings attached. No one will pressure you to apply to the Warner School .
Our registrar, who will receive the information from the form below, will guide you through the registration process and answer questions about course registration, auditing or credit-bearing courses, billing, grading and other policy questions.
Please note that taking courses as a non-matriculated student does not imply nor confer priority for later admission to the Warner School for pursuit of a degree. Courses taken as a non-matriculated student will be considered with the student’s application to the School.
