Rochester Area Information

Rochester is the third largest urban area in New York State. Situated in upstate New York on Lake Ontario and near the Finger Lakes, Rochester has a unique culture and plenty of activities. It's home to professional sports teams at the top of their sports, some of the world's top businesses, and some of the state's most beautiful parks and recreation areas.

Location is everything in Rochester. Despite its size, all of the region's areas are accessible by a short drive, and it is between Syracuse and Buffalo. Day and weekend trips from Rochester are easy, as the city is a short drive from Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada.

Rochester is the birthplace and home of Eastman Kodak Company, Bausch & Lomb, and Xerox Corporation. Claiming more sites on the National Register of Historic Places than any other city its size, Rochester was also the home of women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony and abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
