Melany Silas is a native of Rochester, New York. She attended the University of Rochester where she earned her B.A. in health and society and her M.S. in counseling and human development. She is currently pursuing a master's of divinity at Colgate Rochester Crozier Divinity School.

Silas is also a faculty member at Monroe Community College where she teaches courses in grief work, emotional wellness and issues in children’s health. She is active in the Rochester community, where she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., a board member of Successful Pathways, and a facilitator and motivational speaker for many area community agencies. Silas is an author, facilitator, mentor, educator and counselor, and is committed to be a conduit to assist people in tapping into their greatest treasures…themselves.

Silas' presentation will be geared around the concept of “The Purpose Driven Counselor.” It will touch components of the counselor as a whole in an interactive fashion. Some of the areas that will be touched upon include: understanding personal purpose, making a mental shift, stirring the gifts within and developing realistic expectations and resources.
