Highland Opens New Bariatric Surgery Center

One of the largest bariatric surgery programs in the Northeast is located at Highland Hospital. In the past six years, surgeons at Highland have performed bariatric surgery on more than 2,000 people suffering from severe obesity, giving them hope for a healthier future.

Now the highly successful program, which boasts lower readmission rates, fewer complications, and very low mortality as compared to national benchmarks, offers even more ways to help patients, with the opening of the new, first-of-its-kind Bariatric Surgery Center at Highland.

Led by William O’Malley, assistant professor of bariatric surgery, a dedicated team not only performs the surgical intervention, but also provides emotional support and nutritional counseling to help obese people become healthier.
