C-Print Captioning Service

C-Print is a computer-aided speech-to-print captioning service.  This technology is used to improve the classroom experience for hard-of-hearing and deaf students.

C-Print captioning is provided through the use of two laptop computers connected via WiFi or a cable.  The captionist sits near the student and inputs classroom discussion information and interactions into one laptop.  The student is able to simultaneously view the inputted information in print form on the screen of another laptop located on the student’s desk.  The student’s laptop also provides the opportunity for the student to input comments and questions/answers to the screen of the captionist’s laptop, making it possible for the captionist to voice for the student, if the student desires.

It is important for administrators as well as students to understand that all hard-of-hearing and/or deaf students may not benefit from C-Print.  C-Print may be a wonderfully useful tool for students who primary language is English who are experiencing some level of hearing loss.  C-Print may not be as helpful for those students whose primary language is ASL.

C-Print captioning may be requested by contacting the University Disability Resources Office by contacting 275-9125.
