After we transition from FRS to UR Financials on January 1, 2015, the UR Financials system will become the primary financial reporting tool, replacing both FRS and the Cognos Financial Data Warehouse. In order to help with a mid-year transition, UR Financials will be loaded with summary-level FRS data from the first half of fiscal year 2015 (July 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014).
Current Financial Reporting Tools
The Cognos Financial Data Warehouse will be frozen at UR Financials go live, preventing reports on data created from that day forward. Cognos users will still be able to access the system, their frozen reports, and their frozen data after January 1, 2015 in the exact same manner as today. After January 1, 2015, users who need to analyze historical information will need to access Cognos.
Users of the Cumulative Salary (CumSal) Data Warehouse should note that data prior to January 1, 2015 will be frozen in its current format and FRS terms, but data after January 1, 2015 will appear in UR Financials terms.
Benefits of the New Reporting Strategy
Moving to a new system can be difficult initially, but there are many benefits with the UR Financials reporting strategy:
- UR Financials data is accessible immediately after it is loaded into the system, not a day later like it is today.
- Users can gain additional insights into data by drilling and slicing the results of a report, instead of creating multiple reports like today.
- Information will be more accessible, with the ability to easily export to Excel and view system data from your mobile device.
Reporting will continue to be discussed in future Demo Days. Detailed training on how to run reports in UR Financials will be provided this fall.
