At Eastman it is part of our mission is to care for the underserved, including people with intellectual disabilities (ID), complex diseases, and geriatric patients, among others. The Eastman Institute for Oral Health partnered with the Golisano Foundation and Special Olympics to host A Day For Special Smiles, the first-of-its-kind event in New York State. During the event, over 30 volunteers, including dental residents, faculty, dental assistants and staff provided no-cost dental treatment to Special Olympics athletes. Access to dental care is the most unmet health need in children and adults with developmental disabilities. We are proud that Eastman could help address this need and expose our residents to a unique kind of clinical experience. Following the success of the Day, Eastman will now hold similar treatment days monthly.
In addition to our role as a world leader in research and post-doctoral education in general and dental specialties, we are proud to serve as our region’s leading provider of dental care to many special needs patients. By giving to the EIOH Annual Fund, you are helping to ensure we can continue provide this type of care, and not only impact the educational experiences of our residents, but also improve the lives of the special individuals who will receive treatment.
