ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Blair Veenema pitched three hit ball over 7.1 innings and Mike Park saved it as the University of Rochester defeated St. John Fisher, 2-0, at Frontier Field Friday night.

The Yellowjackets are 30-11, a single-season record for victories. Rochester is idle until May 8 when the Liberty League baseball championships open at RPI. St. John Fisher is 17-17.

Veenema struck out seven and walked one. He retired 10 of the first 11 he faced, yielding a single to John Quartitoni with one out in the second. The Cardinals had five men reach base against him: Quartironi, Teagen Barresi, and Jason Nevada had singles. Nevada also walked. Jon Gibbs reached on an error. He never let a runner get into scoring position.

In the eighth, he struck out Ross Langevin. Nevada singled to center and that brought on Park. He retired Kevin Wing on a fly to center and slipped a called third strike past Ryan Pettinella.

Park got Barresi on a groundout to start the ninth. He walked Steve Karnyski, then ended the game by striking out Quartironi and Gibbs. It was his second save this season and the third shutout in which he has pitched.

Fisher righthanded Dan Jurik kept the Yellowjackets at bay. Andy Cannon led off the first with a double down the left field line. Blayne Fuke bunted him to second. Jurik induced a foul pop to short right by Dan Brien and a flyout to right. He retired 12 in a row after the Cannon double.

Rochester nicked him for a run in the fifth. Ryan Sullivan singled to center and moved up on Nate Stein's sac bunt. Sullivan was halfway down the baseline, trying to catch Jurik off guard. As a pitch to Matt Francis skidded in the dirt, he stole third. The Cardinals brought the infield in and Francis chipped a single over the reach of Nevada at second base for a 1-0 lead. Alex Caghan flew out and Jurik struck out Brian Bezek.

Jay Jay Vanderstyne led off the seventh with a booming double that took one hop against the bullpen in left center. Steve Just pinch-ran for him. Sullivan bunted Just to third and - with the infield in again - Stein lined a single down the right field line. Francis hit the next pitch hard, but Jurik speared it and turned it into a 1-6-3 double play.

Caghan walked leading off the eighth but two consecutive steals were waived off as both Bezek and Cannon were ruled out for batter interference. Caghan eventually stole second, just before Fuke grounded out.

Jurik gave up five hits. He walked one and Fisher played errorless ball behind him. He struck out four.

Veenema improved to 3-0. Jurik is 4-4 for Fisher.
