Pitkin’s performance put the Golden Knights into the winner’s bracket at 1 pm on Saturday. Rochester will play against host RPI in a 9:30 am elimination game. RPI lost, 8-7, to Skidmore. The loss dropped Rochester’s record to 30-12. RPI is 31-10.
Mike Park took the loss for Rochester. He is 6-2. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up two hits, three runs (two earned), with six walks and five strikeouts. Paul Toland pitched the final 2.2 innings. He yielded six hits, three runs (two earned), and walked one.
Rochester had a chance early. In the second inning, Nate Stein singled and stole second with two outs. Alex Caghan walked before Pitkin struck out Brian Bezek.
Clarkson got an unearned run in the fifth. David Kinney walked and was sacrificed to second. Park struck out Steve Magovney, but the ball was dropped. The ball was thrown away, allowing Kinney to reach third and Magovney to move to second. Matt Giordano bounced out, bringing home Kinney with the opening run.
In the Rochester sixth, Dan Brien and Ryan Sullivan hit back to back singles with two down before Jay Jay Vanderstyne was retired on a flyout to right.
Clarkson got five runs in the last three innings, two in the seventh, one in the eighth, one in the ninth. In the seventh, with one out, Park walked two straight. Toland relieved. He gave up an RBI single to Giordano and an RBI double to Matt Curry, pushing the lead to 3-0.
With nine honored by the Liberty League and seven by the UAA, Rochester's post-season haul of trophies is extremely large this spring.[read more]
