Richard W. Kissell, M.D. '67

At Rochester:

• Played baseball and basketball in all four years, three years with the varsity basketball team and his first year with the freshman team
• As a senior, he hit more triples per at bat than any collegian in the nation
• Named team MVP and awarded the Lysle "Spike" Garnish Award

Post-Graduate:

• Signed a professional baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1967
• Played in Sarasota, FL that summer and was elected to the All-Star Team (along with eventual pro stars Ted Simmons and Jerry Ruess)
• Accepted into the St. Louis University Medical School and managed to play for a semipro team, the Heine Meine League
• During military service, he served as a Major at U.S. General Leonard Wood Army Hospital
• Received "The Army Commendation Medal" for meritorious service
• Has worked in private practice in Springfield, MO since 1976 at the Diagnostic Clinic
• Served as Chief of the Department of Medicine at Cox Health Systems, and was elected Chief of Staff in 1987
