He is one of three players from University Athletic Association schools to be honored and one of two Western New York-area collegians recognized. Aaron Thompson and Sean Wallis of NCAA Division III National Champion Washington University were selected to the team (Thompson First Team, Wallis Second Team). Among New York schools, Mark Carson of RIT was named a Third Team All-American and Sean Burton of Ithaca College was named a Fourth Team All-American.
Earlier this month, Chmielowiec was named a First Team All-East player by D3hoops.com. Additionally, he was selected as a First Team All-East player by members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
He is the first Rochester player in four years to receive All-America honors from D3hoops.com. Seth Hauben was named a First Team All-American by the website in 2005.
Chmielowiec enjoyed one of the finest scoring seasons in Rochester basketball history. He averaged 21.3 ppg. and led the UAA in scoring. He topped the 30-point barrier four times. On February 1, he established a career high with 36 points in a victory over Emory. He had 24 points by halftime, including his 1,000th career point. That made him the 24th Rochester men's basketball player to top 1,000 points.
On February 22, he scored 32 points as Rochester defeated second-ranked Washington University, 70-69, in St. Louis. It was the fourth win on Washington's court for Rochester and came four weeks after the Bears had won handily at the Palestra - in a game Chmielowiec missed due to a foot injury. At one point in the second half, he outscored the Bears, 16-6, and pushed Rochester into a two-point lead after the Bears led by eight.
Chmielowiec was honored three times this year for his academic achievements. In October, he received the Athletic Department's Lysle "Spike" Garnish Award as one of the top seven senior scholar-athletes. In January, he was named to the UAA All-Academic Team. In February, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Second Team, covering New England and New York State.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Chmielowiec was named First Team All-UAA in balloting of the association's head coaches.
