Peter Thompson enters his fourth year at the helm of the University of Rochester Swimming and Diving program. In just three short years he has led the Yellowjackets to an impressive array of accomplishments. Highlights of these successes include: Two Liberty League Championships; 25 new school records; 13 NCAA qualifying times; 1 All-American Honorable mention; 4 NCAA Scholar All-Americans; 35 UAA All-Academic honoree's; 2 Phi Beta Kappa recipients; and the first UAA Champion for Rochester since 2004. During Thompson's tenure both teams have combined for close to 800 personal best times, and now account for over 25% of Rochester's all time Top 10 Swimming Performances.

Prior to his appointment at Rochester, Thompson spent three years (2003-2006) reviving the Niagara University swimming program. Under his direction both teams combined to set 17 new school records, and capture three individual MAAC titles. During that time Niagara tripled its won-lost record (03-04) and accounted for their first winning MAAC season in seven years (04-05). Both teams were consistently recognized for academic excellence, with the men's team receiving such recognition for the first time in a decade.

For eighteen years Thompson coached in the Philadelphia area at the club, scholastic and collegiate levels. During that time he worked under a two-time US Olympic Coach (1990-1992), personally coached RSA Olympian Eugene Botes (1995-1999), and mentored numerous team and individual champions, National qualifiers, All-Americans, and PA State record holders. Pete was named Suburban Philadelphia coach of the year in 1995 and 1997. He is an ASCA Level IV Swimming Coach.

Pete earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Richmond, and a Masters degree in Counseling and Human Relations from Villanova University. He was certified in clinical/sport hypnosis in 2003, and has taught both graduate (Counselor Education) and undergraduate (Sport Psychology) courses at four universities. He is the Executive Director of Mind-Body-Sports in Brighton, NY.

Pete lives with his family- Kathleen, Noah, Madison, and their dog, Cloud, in Pittsford, NY.

Libby Snyder joined the University of Rochester Swimming and Diving program as an assistant coach in 2008, after graduating from Boston College with a BS in Human Development. Following a very successful year coaching the Yellowjacket sprint and middle distance groups, Snyder was elevated to the top assistant position in the spring of 2009. Highlights for the athletes directly in her charge include a victorious 200 freestyle relay at the UAA Championship meet, numerous NCAA Provisional Qualifiers, school record holders, and two NCAA Academic All-American Honorable Mentions. In addition to her responsibilities on the pool deck, Snyder is the development coordinator for the team's dry land and weight programs, and also oversees women's recruiting.

As a student-athlete, Snyder accrued numerous accolades. These highlights include the Boston College Leadership Award as well as BC's prestigious 2008 Outstanding Female Senior of the Year Award. In addition, Libby was consistently named to the ACC All-Academic team, received the Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement, and was the recipient of the Boston College award for the highest academic average among all student-athletes at BC.

Competing in both the Big East and ACC, Libby earned 49 dual meet first place finishes, and ended her career with a total of 745 points. She was also a member of the two record setting relay teams. As a local scholastic athlete, Libby competed for both FAST and HFL, where she was an All-American, a two time New York State champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and qualifier for the US Open Championships, the World Cup, and US Senior Nationals.

Libby is working on her Master's degree at the Warner School of Education.

Greg Brandes is beginning his sixth season as the full time Head Diving Coach at the University of Rochester. During the past five seasons, Rochester divers have been impressive in both the Liberty League and the University Athletic Association. During Brandes's tenure, three Yellowjacket divers have broken every 6-dive school record at the University, including 2006 NCAA Provisional Qualifier and Rochester Athlete of the Year Patricia McHale. 12 of Greg's athletes are now listed on the top ten all-time list at the University of Rochester. During that span, Rochester divers have captured a combined 93 dual meet victories, placed in the top 8 at the UAA Championships 27 times, with another 38 finalists coming at the Liberty League championship meet. Included in this group was 2009 Liberty League Champion Rachel Delahunta.

In addition to his full time duties at Rochester, Greg coaches a local AAU and USA Diving team. His current group of athletes includes an AAU National Champion, two Senior National Qualifiers, four high school All-Americans, and two New York State Champions. Prior to his appointment at Rochester, Greg led the diving program at West Virginia University where, over a three year span, he coached three NCAA Zone Diving National Qualifiers as well as an Olympic Trials Qualifier.

As a student-athlete at West Virginia, Greg was named to the Big East All-Academic team six times, and was WVU's Diver of the Year in 1999. During that same year Greg was honored to represent WVU at the NCAA Leadership Conference. He graduated with a BS in Physical Education in 2000 and earned his MS in Athletic Coaching in 2003.

Brandes is a six time USA Diving Masters National Champion and a two time USA Diving All-American. He is training to compete in four events, including the 10 meter platform, at the 2010 FINA Masters World Championship in Sweden.


Matt Bailey, Swimming - Assistant Coach
Joined the Yellowjacket's staff in August 2009... Worked for Fidelity Investments prior to coming to the University of Rochester.

Bailey was a 2007 graduate of the University of Utah where he earned a degree in Finance... Earned a four year swimming scholarship and was camptain during the 2006-2007 season... Finished 11th at the 2007 MWC Championships in the 50 Freestyle and 12th at the 2005 MWC Championships in the 50 Freestyle...Was a 2007 and 2009 Senior National Qualifier in 50 Freestyle... Finished 3rd at 2003 MWC Championships in 200 Freestyle Relay...

Is the Northridge High School record holder in 100,200, and 500 Freestyle as well as the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Medley Relay.

Coached Riverton High School during the 2002-2003 season and broke five school records.

Currently pursuing his MBA at Simon... Married to wife Shari Bailey and has a three year old daughter named Brooklyn.
