Ameno had a career low 1.25 ERA in 2009.
University of Rochester senior pitcher Beth Ameno capped off a brilliant career by being named a Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She is a native of Cheektowaga, NY and an alumna of John F. Kennedy High School.

This is the fifth post-season honor to come Ameno’s way this year. At the end of the regular season, she was named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team, Liberty League Pitcher of the Year (for the second straight year), First Team All-Liberty League, and First Team All-University Athletic Association. The UAA also picked an All-Tournament Team following its championship tournament in early March. Ameno was selected to that team.

She is the second Rochester softball player to earn All-America honors. Jessica Sorrentino, an outfielder from Long Island, was named an NFCA Third Team All-American last season.

Rochester’s softball program just finished its 12th season. The team has competed in the NCAA Division III playoffs in each of the last three years and set a single-season record for victories in those years: 28 in 2007, 32 in 2008, 33 in 2009. Rochester has won three consecutive Liberty League championships (8-0 each year).

The all-time softball record is 223 wins, 236 losses (.486). Since Ameno’s class arrived on campus, that record is a gaudy 117 wins, 50 losses (.701). As a pitcher, Ameno has figured into 73 of those victories (69 wins, four saves).

In 2009, she had a record of 23-9 in 35 appearances (25 starts). Ameno had 16 complete games. She had eight solo shutouts and shared two others. In 201.1 innings, she allowed 132 hits, 49 runs, 36 earned runs, walked 60, and struck out 254. Opponents hit .178 against her. Her ERA was 1.25, a career low.

Her ERA this season is second to the 1.24 recorded by Carly Hoffend in 2007. Ameno’s 254 strikeouts are second to her own record of 257 set last season. Her 23 victories are second to her 25 wins last year.

In her four seasons, her record was 69-31 with a 1.49 ERA. She started 97 games in 118 appearances, had 63 complete games, and 19 solo shutouts (plus six shared shutouts). In 649.1 innings, she yielded 494 hits, 218 runs, 138 earned runs, walked 190, and struck out 751. Opponents hit .205 against her.

At the plate, Ameno hit .241 as a senior with 28 hits in 116 at-bats. She scored 14 runs, had foru doubles, and 17 RBIs. She was successful on seven of eight steals. Her career average was .274 (111 for 405) with 64 runs scored, 22 doubles, six home runs, and 70 RBIs. She stole 25 bases in 28 attempts.

She will graduate on May 17 with a baccalaureate degree in Brain & Cognitive Science.
