The real drama came toward the end of the day at the No. 7 spot, where freshman Jo Chapman beat out Penn's Parker Justi, 10-8, 10-9, 9-3. In the first game, Justi built up an 8-0 lead. Chapman, however wasn't about to give in, scoring 10-straight points to steal the victory. In the second game, the two players exchanged points right up until the final play, but Chapman came away with the victory on a let call. The freshman outlasted Justi in the final game: with the score tied at three, Chapman rattled off 6 straight points to clinch the win and a UR sweep.
In the top three spots, UR was dominant. Sophomore Hameed Ahmed started the 'Jackets off strong in the No. 3 spot, ousting Penn’s Trevor McGuinness, 9-1, 9-1, 9-3. Freshman Beni Fischer and junior Jim Bristow followed suit on the center court, registering solid wins against their respective Penn opponents.
Both the No. 4 and No. 5 players notched definitive wins for the 'Jackets. Freshman Matt Domenick allowed his opponent to score just three points en route to a win at the No. 4 spot, and sophomore Fred Reid beat out Penn's Joey Raho at No. 5. After a heated first game, sophomore Will Newnham pulled away from his Penn opponent at the No. 6 spot to win in three by scores of 9-4, 9-5, 9-2.
In the No. 8 spot, freshman Adam Perkiomaki scored nine-straight points in his final game to sweep his opponent. At the No. 9 position, junior Yohay Wakabayashi came back after dropping his first game to soundly beat his opponent, 2-9, 9-5, 9-2, 9-4.
