The University of Rochester successfully defended its squash championship in the Liberty League over the weekend with three dominating wins.[read more]

The award was presented by Andrea Golden, the Associate Director of Athletics for Varsity Programs. It was made at the Department’s annual awards banquet earlier this spring.
Bristow has earned All-America honors in each of his three seasons at Rochester. He was a Second Team All-American in 2006-07, a First Team All-American in 2007-08 and 2008-09. He played in the number one position for squash in each of those three years. As both a sophomore and junior, he finished ranked sixth as an individual.
His most important contribution may have come with his teammates. In his freshman year, he worked with his teammates to help them achieve their potential. His contacts internationally helped attract other recruits to the University. He has served as a team co-captain in each of his three years.
Rochester won the Jack Barnaby Cup twice (2006-07, 2007-08) from the Collegiate Squash Association. It is given to the nation’s most improved squash program. In the 2008-09 season, Rochester finished third in the nation, its highest ranking in program history.
Bristow is majoring in Financial Economics. He has been named to the Dean’s List for the last two semesters. He is the squash representative to the Varsity Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
The Vitone Award originated in 1995. It honors a man who served as an assistant football coach at Rochester for 25 years, 17 as the defensive coordinator. John Vitone served as Coordinator of Club Sports from 1997 to 1991. The Varsity Weight Room was renamed in his honor, shortly after his passing in 1992. Vitone was inducted into the Athletics & Recreation Hall of Fame in 1997.
