The Dutchwomen boosted their record to 14-2 and moved into the league’s title game on Saturday afternoon. Rochester, which was making its inaugural Liberty League appearance, finished the 2009 campaign at 8-9.
Kristin Joyce led Union with five goals and two assists. Chelsea Charette had five goals and one assist. Seven players scored for the Dutchwomen.
Mary Kate Hannan led the Yellowjackets with two goals and one assist. Abby Woodward scored two goals. Erica Gelb had one goal and one assist. Lindsay Dakin and Danielle Mondro each scored once.
Leslie Dube made six saves in goal for Rochester, five in the first half. Cat Ruggiero had six saves as well for Union.
Goals from Gelb (with 24:45 left in the first half) and Hannan (with 19:09 left) tied the match at 2-2 after Union edged ahead by one goal each time. Charette scored an unassisted goal with 14:44 left in the first period and that started a 4-0 run that put Union ahead, 6-2, at intermission.
Hannan found Dakin for a goal just 3:31 into the second half, cutting the Union lead to 6-3. Charette scored immediately – 12 seconds after Dakin – to begin the game-controlling 9-1 run.
Rochester won 15 draws to 10 for Union. Marlena Fisher, Mondro, and Dakin won three apiece. The Yellowjackets caused six turnovers, two by Maggie Stevenson. Union won the ground ball battle, 30-17 (Stevenson had four ground balls for Rochester). The Dutchwomen held a 30-18 advantage in shots.
