
Women’s Varsity 8s
Rochester's First Varsity 8 (Jackie Monaghan, Jaime Sorensen, Cathy Cebul, Katie Lantuh, Erin Partin, Alyssa Berkowitz, Nicole Telleri, Katie Braun, Sarah Tannery (cox)) earned the second sprint pairing after the morning's racing, covering the course in 17:35, trailing only Ithaca (17:29) and two Open crews (Buffalo, Western Ontario). The Varsity 8, although forced wide on the final turn while overtaking St. Lawrence, was able to post their time ahead of 22 other boats, including top regional rivals from St. Lawrence, William Smith and RIT. For the afternoon sprint, the boat tried to raise the rate to overtake Ithaca for Gold, but settled for Silver, with a sprint time of 5:10 (7 seconds back).
Rochester's Second Varsity 8 (Hannah Stenger, Margaret Zupa, Jewell Case, Kate Kelliher, Taylor Wolfgang, Becca Hester, Jenn Williams, Ellen Thomas, and Erica Greenbaum (cox) stood in 9th place in the Collegiate morning standings after covering the distance in 18:04, finishing just behind Vermont's second Varsity 8 (18:03). For the sprint race, RIT's First Varsity entry (5:15) outsprinted Rochester 2V (5:22), leaving the Yellowjackets' 2V in 10th place (second among Collegiate second Varsity entries).
Rochester's Third Varsity 8 (Courtney Stewart, Audrey Kelly, Gabby Logrono, Liz Gillespie, Kelly Ostrander, Fannie Chen, Emily Pape, Alexandra Lang, Andrea Welles (cox) featured 2 freshmen and 7 sophomores, and acquitted themselves well, defeating Third Varsity Crews from Vermont as well as the First Varsity boats from Geneseo and RPI, with times of 19:14 and 5:38.
Women’s Novice 8s
Composed entirely of Walkons, the Rochester A entry (Kathleen Shannon, Sam Echaves, Karen McGavern, Allie Shalom, Narissa Gog, Ellie Sacks, Emma Caldwell, Sam Spivey, Liz Reidman (Cox)) finished behind only Division I Buffalo A and B, earning a Bronze medal with a time of 20:08. Rochester B (Francesca Ossi, Lauren Fischer, Amanda Schlib, Paula Aronson, Emily Wyckoff, Cassie Donadetti, Nataly Ridell Lindsay Forbes (cox)) finished 5th in a time of 22:07, ahead of RIT (22:55).
Men’s Varsity 8s
Note: The men’s rowing team is a club sport. However, the terminology ‘Varsity’ refers to the status of the shell.
The men's Varsity 8 (Will Marshall, Dan Byington, Ross Pedersen, Paul Menson, Zak Niazi, George Dise, Chris Cistrone, Tim Rice and Jake Miller (cox)) raced with 6 new members compared to last year’s boating. The Crew had a solid morning race, finishing in a time of 15:48, seventh among collegiate crews in the morning within 16 seconds of medal position. However, the crew was unable to move up, and held their position with a sprint time of 4:35, just behind Ithaca and Bucknell University.
Men’s Varsity 4s
The men's Varsity 4 (Jay Nerger, Mike Maloney, Rahul Patel, Ian Turner, Kat Schwartz (cox)) used a strong sprint (5:29) to reclaim the 6th place position they held after the morning head race (18:49) just behind Hobart College.
Men’s Novice 8s
Comprised of walk ons with no prior experience, the Rochester A boat (Greg McKiernan, John Nicosia, Bryan Schiliro, Tyler Gomez-Basauri, Jody Wegman, Mike Moll, Brian Hughes, Josh Geiger, Jason Huang, Cox)) finished 2nd (17:39) behind Bucknell University (16:41), the defending ACRA club champions. Rochester B (Jake Goritski, Steve Huber, Matt Shulman, Shubho Bhattacharyya, Barron Rosborough, Alex Erines, Greg Werbin, Matt Gonzalez, Eric deMeo (cox)) despite an ejection of their stroke within sight of the finish line, finished with a time of 20:51 after waiting for the Sheriff's launch to pickup their missing rower.
The team will travel to Boston for the Head of The Charles, the world's largest regatta, October 17-18.
When the new academic year begins at the University, women’s rowing will make its debut as a varsity sport. The women’s program operated as a club sport for more than 20 years.[read more]
