Matt was named as head coach of both the men's and women's tennis programs in mid-July, 2008. He served as an assistant coach for both squads from 2003-2008.

He is a 2001 graduate of Penn State University with a baccalaureate degree in kinesiology. Nielsen was a four-year starter for the Nittany Lions, playing #2 singles and #1 doubles as a senior. At Penn State, he received the Academic All-Big Ten Award, the Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award, and the Penn State Tennis Senior Achievement Leadership Award. He is a 2008 graduate of the Simon School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester with a masters degree in business administration.

The Rochester-area native was a nationally-recognized junior player. Nielsen earned a national ranking in the 14-, 16-, and 18-year old age groups, rising to his United States high ranking of #44. He was the 2002 Rochester District Singles Champion and is a three-time men’s doubles and mixed doubles district champion. Nielsen is a 1997 graduate of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School.

Adrian Cosma joined the Rochester staff in 2009 and will serve as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams.

Coach Cosma is a 2004 graduate of Pace University where he earned a degree in Finance. There, he played four years of varsity tennis and during his senior season he competed as the top seed, earning all-conference honors.

Following graduation, Coach Cosma worked as a tennis professional at Sutton East Tennis Club in New York City (2005-2009). He has been professionally certified with the USPTA since 2001 and traveled with top 10 USTA Eastern Juniors.

Julie is working on her third year at the University of Rochester with the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Team. Her focus with the team is strength training, conditioning and administrative work. Julie is a Rochester native who played Varsity Tennis for Irondequoit High School and then continued her tennis career playing Varsity Tennis for four years at Elmira College. At Elmira she also earned her Bachelors Degree in Psychology.

Also, Julie has her New York State Coaching License for Scholastic Sports. She spent 3 years after college coaching JV High School Tennis in Wayne County. In addition to working with the Unviersity’s tennis teams, Julie is employed by the YMCA of Greater Rochester where she is a Certified personal Trainer and Fitness Specialist.
