Blackboard 9

Exporting Learning Objects Wikis and Blogs

You can export any wikis or blogs you created in Blackboard prior to version 9.1 by using the "export site" function on the wiki/blog webpage. This document will refer to the wiki tool; the process for exporting blogs is exactly the same.

Remember that any blog/wiki content from past courses that you want to retain must be exported before June 30, 2012, which is when the Learning Objects license will expire.

Enter the course where you used the wiki tool, and view the wiki homepage.  On the right-hand navigation column, toward the bottom, you'll see a heading "Toolbox" with a link called Export Site.  Click that link, and the entire wiki site will download to your local computer.

Now, navigate on your local computer to the folder where your downloads go (usually either the Desktop, or a Downloads folder).  You'll find a zip file with the name of the wiki. When you double-click or expand the zip file, you'll get a folder of the same name:

When you open the folder, you'll see a file for each wiki page (or in the case of a blog, a file for each blog entry, as well as the index), but the names are encoded:

Double-click the index.html file, and your browser will open an index to the files with readable names.

Now click on "Home" and the wiki will look as it did in the course, with all linked pages intact:
