Lecture: Angel Rodriguez-Diaz

Memorial Art Gallery
Thursday, November 15, 2007
Starts at 7:00 pm

Enjoy an illustrated lecture by Puerto Rican artist Angel Rodriguez-Diaz. Following a grand line of portraitists, including El Greco, Francisco Goya and Frida Kahlo, Angel Rodriguez-Diaz's work pushes the social and political boundaries of portraiture. Since the 1980s he has dealt primarily with issues in (and subjects from) the Latin American community, specifically the complexity of balancing and participating simultaneously in two cultures. In The Protagonist of an Endless Story (shown), he captures the dynamism of Sandra Cisneros, one of this country's premier Latina writers. The work is on special loan from the Smithsonian American Art Museum throughout the exhibition TRANSactions: Contemporary Latin American and Latino Art. Free with Gallery admission.
